Financial Planning Journey

If you've ever wondered what actually happens when you work with a financial planner, you're not alone. As a fee-only, advice-only financial planner in Calgary, I don't believe in one big meeting followed by a report you're left to interpret on your own. Financial planning is a process, one we work through together, step by step, with real conversations built in along the way. Whether you're a woman navigating a major life transition or a couple trying to align competing financial priorities, here's exactly what working with me looks like, from our first conversation to the moment you put your plan into action.

You’ll enter your financial information into the planning platform. In this stage, you will upload your relevant documents and share with me your goals, questions and concerns. It doesn’t need to be perfect, I will help identify anything that is missing or needs clarification.

FOUNDATION

Where are you today?

 

 I will review everything you have provided and create your Foundation Report.

This report brings together what I have learned and creates a clear picture of where you are today. It will identify financial strengths, areas that need further exploration and questions the planning process needs to answer.

WE MEET

 The purpose of this meeting is to confirm: “Did I understand you correctly?”

We review your Foundation Report, fill in any gaps and confirm what we need to explore through the planning process.

PLANNING CHECKPOINT

What are the possibilities?

What are the possibilities? I will complete the deeper planning work, analyze the client’s situation, test scenarios and explore different options and trade-offs.

Then I will create the Planning Checkpoint Report.

This is intentionally a work in progress. It isn’t your final plan or final recommendations. 

We Meet

 The purpose of this meeting is: “Which direction makes the most sense?”

We look at the scenarios together, discuss assumptions and trade-offs, answer questions and make decisions that will help shape the final recommendations.

Your Plan: What should you do?

 Using everything we have learned and discussed, I will create your Final Plan and share it with you.

This brings everything together into clear recommendations, priorities, and next steps.

We Meet

The purpose of this meeting is to answer: “What should I do next?”

We walk through the recommendations together and make sure you understand not only what I am recommending, but why.

Action: Put your plan into action.

 You will leave the planning process knowing what to do next, rather than simply having a report full of numbers.

The plan belongs to you. I do not sell investments or insurance, earn commissions or require you to move your accounts to work with me. You will remain in control of how and where the recommendations are implemented.
