September is the New January

September always sneaks up on me. The mornings feel cooler (however, this week has been +29 degrees and sunny, so we are not quite there yet!), the light changes, and even though there are no more school forms on my fridge or backpacks by the door, I still get that back-to-school feeling.

It is like the world exhales after summer. The chaos of vacations, barbeques, and endless sunny evenings slows down, and suddenly, there is space. Space to think, to reset, to ask yourself, “Where am I at? What do I really want for the rest of the year?”

For a long time, I thought January was the only time for goals. Fresh planners, big resolutions, all that energy. But I have learned that September is better. It is not about starting over. It is about realigning with what matters most to you.

If you are feeling like you drifted off course (financially or otherwise), this is the perfect moment to recalibrate.

Here is how I like to start:

Look back at summer with honesty and kindness

Summer has a way of loosening the purse strings. Spontaneous dinners out, weekend getaways, that “I deserve this” purchase. No judgement here. Just take a look: What brought you joy? What would you skip next time?

Revisit your goals - or set new ones

Do you even remember what you set out to do in January? If not, that is okay. Life happens. What matters is deciding what is important to you now. Maybe it’s paying down that one lingering credit card. Maybe it’s building a small buffer before the holidays.

Adjust for what’s real today

Fall brings new routines, sometimes new costs. School fees, higher heating bills, or just a busier schedule. Update your spending plan to reflect your life as it is, not as you wish it was.

Reconnect with your “why”

Money is never really about dollars and cents. It is about what it gives you - stability, freedom, less stress. What would feeling “in control” look like for you this fall?

Ready for a reset?

Whether you feel behind or simply want more clarity, now is a great time to get back on track.

My Financial Wellness Workshop will help you reconnect with your goals, adjust your plan, and feel in control of your money again. You’ll leave with a plan that feels realistic and supportive of your life today.

Or if you’d prefer to work through this one-on-one, you can book a personal planning session here:
